According to the Chronicle Live, Liverpool youngster, Remi Savage is set to sign for Premier League rivals Newcastle United on a three-year contract.
A product of the Liverpool youth setup, the centre-back has featured 33 times for the club’s Under-18 outfit and was a regular for the reserves in the season gone by, during which he appeared 19 times in the Premier League 2. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Savage signed a professional deal with Liverpool in June last year, after having been part of the Reds’ side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2019.
However, he has never made a first-team appearance for the Reds. Savage’s contract with Liverpool, though, expires at the end of this month. And now, Newcastle United have made a play to sign the 19-year-old centre-half.
The report claims that the Magpies have offered Savage a three-year professional contract. And the sources within the club are confident that the deal will be agreed upon and an announcement will be made imminently.
Savage is expected to be part of the Under-23 setup and will work with Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage’s reserve team. Over the course of his contract, though, the central defender, who can also play at left-back, is expected to challenge for the first-team.
A young prospect with potential, Savage’s time at Liverpool looks set to come to an end soon. Considering that there are a host of central defenders ahead of him in the pecking order at the club, a pathway to the first-team was always going to be difficult.
It will be interesting to see if he is able to break into the Magpies’ senior side.
