Speaking on his Twitch stream, reliable transfer insider Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Express) stated that the bloated price tag for Kingsley Coman could rule out Liverpool of any potential move.
The French winger is heavily linked with the Reds during this summer window. Reports in Italy (h/t The Express) even went on to state that the Merseysiders have tabled a £34million bid for him.
However, the Bundesliga champions value the 25-year-old at around €90million. This claim is backed up by Romano, who says
that Jurgen Klopp’s side could miss out on Coman due to the price tag.“Let’s see if [Liverpool] sign a striker if they sell Shaqiri.I don’t see any possibility with Coman [joining], to be honest. It’s €90million. It would be really difficult to sign Coman this summer.”
That would come as a blow to the Reds. Coman, a league-title winner in every single season of his entire professional career, has the quality and experience to challenge Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for starts.
At just 25, he could even be the long-term successor for either of the two if they leave Anfield in the future. With Jadon Sancho signing for rivals Manchester United, Coman’s potential signature would have been a big deal for the club and its fans.
But that seems unlikely now. With Xherdan Shaqiri and Diogo Jota currently in the ranks, the Reds are not totally helpless in case Mane or Salah are unavailable for selection.
However, the attack looks like it can use a more solid name alongside the famed front-three; which can now be called the front-four with Jota’s inclusion in a 4-2-3-1 formation at times.
We will have a clearer picture of the situation in the coming weeks but the Reds would be wise to look for alternatives for Coman.
