English starlet could leave Liverpool this summer without making a single appearance

Ben Davies could be on his way out of Liverpool this summer

According to The Metro, Liverpool are ready to part ways with English defender Ben Davies this summer.

Signed from Preston North End last January, the 25-year-old was a surprise choice to combat Liverpool’s injury troubles at centre-back. Davies and Orzan Kabak were brought in to supplement the Reds side reeling from losing all three centre-backs for the remainder of the season.

While Kabak received opportunities, Davies is yet to feature for Liverpool in a competitive fixture. From the looks of it, he may be out of the door without having played a single minute for the Reds.

Davies arrived at Liverpool last January

With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all back fit, Davies has a tough task ahead of him to garner regular game time. Add to it the presence of new boy Ibrahima Konate and the impressive Nathaniel Phillips, and it is understandable why the 25-year-old could do well with a move away.

Signing Davies was a low-risk move that helped address a key requirement. Now that the crisis has passed, it is fair to say that his relevance has dimmed somewhat. With the Reds also unwilling to make a permanent move for Kabak, it will not come as a surprise if Davies too will follow the Turk out of the door.

It is perhaps unfair that the player who had been given a chance of a lifetime will face such an unceremonious exit. But he could take the lessons he received from the Liverpool coaching staff and go on to make a name for himself elsewhere.

Liverpool trumped Celtic to sign Ben Davies on January deadline day

Davies proved himself to be a capable defender in the Championship. There is no reason why he cannot do a job elsewhere, either in the second tier or the Premier League. His Liverpool run however might be over.

It is not easy for a player to break into Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI at Liverpool. The German has built a strong starting line-up that just oozes with world-class talent. The fact that Davies could not break in is a testament to the quality at the Reds’ disposal rather than any shortcomings the player has.
