Transfer News: Liverpool grant permission to Elijah Dixon-Bonner to trial for clubs

According to transfer news from Hampshire Live, Liverpool have granted permission to young midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner to go out on trial to secure a new club for himself.

Dixon-Bonner came through the youth ranks at Arsenal before making the switch to the Liverpool youth academy in the summer of 2015. Since then, the 20-year-old midfielder has progressed fairly well, racking up 40 plus appearances for the Reds’ Under-18 and Under-23 teams.

The central midfielder made his first-team debut for the Merseyside giants in the FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury Town in February last year. That remains his solitary senior appearance for Liverpool to date.

Given that he has seen precious little first-team chances over the last year, Dixon-Bonner is said to be keen on moving away from Liverpool to a club where he could feature for the senior side on a regular basis.

And, the aforementioned report claims that the club have given him permission to try out for different clubs in order to secure a transfer away from Anfield.

In fact, Dixon-Bonner was seen in action for lower league outfit Porstmouth in their pre-season friendly against Bristol City that ended in a 3-3 draw. The young midfielder was one among seven trialists that featured for Pompey in the contest.

It is, however, unclear whether the 20-year-old will play for Danny Cowley’s next pre-season assignment against Luton Town later today.

Irrespective of whether Dixon-Bonner secures a contract with Portsmouth or not in the coming days, the young midfielder is widely expected to depart Liverpool before the transfer window closes.
