Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has revealed his plans for the upcoming season after a largely forgettable debut campaign at Anfield.
The left-back has been actively participating in the club pre-season programme. He played his part in the club’s 1-0 win Bologna. Speaking to the club’s media channels, Tsimikas insisted that he is ready for regular first-team action after his underwhelming debut term.
“I always give my best to be close to the team. And whenever my coach gives me the opportunity to play, I’m always ready for that. Any opportunity, I’m ready.”
Manager, Jurgen Klopp has also been left impressed by the Greek full-back’s performances during the pre-season.
Kostas was really, really good today, I have to say. That’s true. It was just 45 minutes, that’s fine
The Liverpool squad had been preparing in Austria and France. Back in England, two more preseason games await the Reds. The club will play Athletic Bilbao and CA Osasuna at Anfield to conclude their pre-season.
Liverpool signed Kostas Tsimikas in 2020. The player was brought to manage Andy Robertson’s minutes. However, the Greek international has not seen much action yet for the reds. He made his debut in an EFL Cup game against Lincoln City. Other than a couple of substitute appearances, he is yet to start a Premier League game.
It could be possible that Klopp didn’t fancy keeping Robertson out in an already weakened defence last season when the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were all out injured.
With all of them returning ahead of the new season, Tsimikas could be in line for some Premier League minutes and more regular involvement in general.
