According to a report by Express, Spanish goalkeeper, Adrian San Miguel, is ‘likely’ to leave Liverpool during this summer transfer window.
The former West Ham United stopper was left out of the Liverpool squad against Norwich City on gameweek 1 of the new season. Nat Phillips and Xherdan Shaqiri also failed to make the bench.
And the report mentions that the trio could depart the club this summer. The story is almost the same with all three of them – it is unlikely they get first-team football this season.
Phillips, 24, stepped in Liverpool’s defence with Rhys Williams to help the club finish the club in the top 4 last season. But with all of Reds’ first-choice defenders now fit, and the addition of Ibrahima Konate, Phillips would definitely not be the club’s first-choice centre-back.
Shaqiri, now 29, would wonder what he has done wrong to get this treatment from Jurgen Klopp. Despite impressing on the pitch for the Reds and Switzerland, the former Bayern Munich winger has never made himself a regular feature for the club since his move from Stoke City.
But if Adrian is to leave this summer, one would wonder why Liverpool offered him a contract extension earlier this summer. Although, it could be to command some fee for him if he is to leave permanently.
Otherwise, he would have left as a free agent. Moreover, every club is advised to have three goalkeepers going into any league season and Adrian could be the club’s third-choice stopper in that regard.
Caiomhin Kelleher has clearly pipped him in the pecking order. But as harsh as it sounds, it is up for debate if both Liverpool could find a better third-choice goalie than Adrian, and if the player himself can do better than being a third-choice keeper at a massive club like Liverpool.
