Liverpool keen to secure 25-year-old Bundesliga ace this month

Transfer News: Liverpool interested in signing Denis Zakaria in the January transfer window

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager on Twitter, Liverpool are interested in signing Switzerland international Denis Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the January transfer window.

The defensive midfielder is thought to be a target for several European clubs, with Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich all interested in snapping him up in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has seen his stock rise this season, putting up impressive numbers and churning out eye-catching performances in the Bundesliga. He has been a key member of the Die Fohlen side in recent years.

The midfielder is a self-professed fan of Patrick Vieira, one of the greatest Premier League midfielders of his generation. Getting anywhere close to the Frenchman’s ability should make Zakaria an excellent player who the top sides will only be happy to welcome.

The Mönchengladbach star suffered a season-ending knee injury in March 2020 but has come back strong since and caught the eye of several top-flight clubs.

Zakaria has already made it clear that he wants to leave in the summer after spending five years at the club. With the January transfer window now open, Gladbach could be looking to sell the player for a fee than risk losing him for free in the summer.

Liverpool are interested in signing Borussia Mönchengladbach star Denis Zakaria in January.

If Liverpool do manage to snap up Zakaria before the end of the January transfer window, they will have signed a player who can shore up the Reds’ midfield and provide cover for their established stars.

With Naby Keita heading to the Africa Cup of Nations to represent Guinea and Thiago Alcantara recovering from a hip injury, Jurgen Klopp could find himself short of options in midfield.

Add to it Jordan Henderson’s loss of form and the Liverpool boss has decisions to make. Securing Zakaria would certainly make Klopp’s life easier.

With Liverpool chasing Manchester City for the title, and having important ties in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup coming in the next few weeks, signing the Swiss star would bode well for the rest of the Reds’ campaign.

Zakaria is also a signing for the future, playing at the highest level for his country and in the Bundesliga at just 25-years old. If Liverpool do sign him in January, Klopp can depend on him to provide some steel to a midfield that has not performed well recently. Whether it will come to pass remains to be seen.
