Alan Shearer ‘certain’ about Darwin Nunez shining for Liverpool alongside Manchester City striker Erling Haaland

If you ever need an opinion on a young and upcoming striker, there aren’t many better than Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer for that.

He holds the record for most goals scored in the Premier League with 260 in a career that spanned 18 years at clubs such as Newcastle, Blackburn and Southampton.

The PL now has two new young strikers to look forward to, with Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez from SL Benfica and Erling Haaland joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

Talking on Sky Sports ahead of the Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament (h/t Liverpool Echo), Shearer claimed that he was ‘certain’ about both players doing well for their teams from next season.

“Two huge signings. Two fantastic players. I’m certain both players will score a lot of goals in the Premier League and will make their clubs better. I’ve seen bits of them in the Champions League, obviously.”

Both Nunez and Halaand have enjoyed several good spells in Europe. The Uruguayan in particular was sensational last season in Europe, netting against both Barcelona and Liverpool.

Those games would have caught the eye of fans around the world- Shearer being one of them. He’s spot on about both players being ‘huge signings’.

It was about time this league had two young strikers going at it for the biggest individual prizes. Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min would not go away that easy in the Golden Boot race.
