Jurgen Klopp has finally given his thoughts on Liverpool chasing Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as the Reds prepare for their first pre-season friendly tomorrow.
LFC are in Thailand and will face Manchester United tomorrow in what would be the perfect fixture to start off the pre-season for both teams. Klopp has been speaking since touching down in Bangkok.
Talking in a presser as quoted by Liverpool Echo, the German manager explained that the player isn’t on the transfer market and that is where the buck stops.
“He’s not on the market, so that’s the first problem with that player. Well, the only problem with that player! Of course [I value the youngsters highly].”
Klopp then went on to praise Harvey Elliott. The English teenager, who was signed from Fulham, came here as a right-winger and has now been moved to play in central midfield under the German manager.
“And we should not forget that last season, in the first four games, Harvey Elliott was the best player. He was outstanding. Then he had a bad injury, came back, [he was] high, low. Normal for a young player, and normal after a long injury. He looks sharp now, he’s back, and like everybody he needs luck.”
It’s perhaps Klopp’s way to indicate that he has an option in his squad to future-proof his midfield. Bellingham won’t be cheap and there is competition for him.
But the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager’s comments above also suggest that he really likes the player. What isn’t there to like about him, though.
It could just be a diplomatic way to address our interest in Bellingham but hopefully, it’s just a small indication of any genuine interest that Klopp and co may hold in Bellingham.
