Jurgen Klopp gives injury update on three Liverpool players as Reds record 2-0 win

Jurgen Klopp gives injury update on Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, and Joe Gomez as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace

Speaking in an interview (h/t Liverpool Echo), Jurgen Klopp gave an injury update on three Liverpool players, namely Joe Gomez, Alisson Becker, and Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese forward seemed to have suffered an injury earlier this week and missed our 2-0 win against Crystal Palace today in Singapore. Joe Gomez was also not involved.

The English defender, however, seems okay. Klopp seemed relaxed with his assessment of the ex-Charlton Athletic defender and claimed that his exclusion

was only a precautionary measure.

“Diogo is a concern. With Diogo, it’s a muscle again. Joe, no. Joe is just a precaution and not any kind of risk-taking is worth it. He is really good in the pre-season so far; he felt a little bit here and there so we said, ‘okay, then he is out’.”

Alisson Becker was also not a part of the LFC team that secured a win against Patrick Vieira’s men. Regarding the Brazilian goalkeeper, Klopp said:

“Ali is not cool as well; it will not be too long but each day Ali is not involved is already too long, to be honest.”

While the Reds can live life without Gomez if the other three senior defenders are fit, Jota and Alisson are a big part of the German manager’s first-team set-up. Versatile and with an eye for goal, Jota has been impressive since his move from Wolves.

The Brazilian shot-stopper, meanwhile, is arguably one of our most important players at LFC right now. It was only after he arrived that the Reds started winning big trophies.

He is undoubtedly one of our best-ever goalkeepers and any competitive match where he has to sit out is a game where the Reds cannot call their team a ‘full-strength XI’. It was a good move to rest all three in the win today.

Hopefully, they are all back in action before the end of this month so they can get a few minutes of pre-season action before the PL season begins. Jota’s injury, however, looks serious given it is a muscle concern.
