While speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Monaco’s head of recruitment, Paul Mitchell has informed Liverpool that they would miss the ‘peak years’ of Takumi Minamino following his move to Monaco.
Liverpool accepted a £15.4 million bid from the French club earlier this summer, permitting Minamino to join Monaco on a four-year contract. The 27-year-old was a well-liked Reds player, but he found it difficult to stay to garner regular play time at Anfield.
The Japanese international moved to Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020. During his time on Merseyside, he helped Liverpool lift the Carabao Cup and FA Cup titles.
Paul Mitchell, the head of recruitment at Monaco, said that Minamino’s experience was an attractive proposition ahead of the transfer.
“A player like Taki can sometimes seem like an obvious one because he comes from Liverpool and not a small unknown part of the world, but everything is about balance. We are the second youngest team in French football and one of the youngest in Europe, and with Taki we wanted to bring a bit more of a mature element.”
Due to competition for positions from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Divock Origi, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota, Minamino frequently found himself on the bench at Liverpool. Despite the lack of game time he still managed 10 goals and one assist in 24 games
across all competitions last season. The 27-year-old was crucial to Liverpool’s successes in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and he will have left Anfield with pride. He was unfortunate to be competing for a starting berth with some of Europe’s best attackers; else, he would have garnered more gam-etime.
A terrific player who can be used in rotation, he added reliable depth to the Reds’ squad. It is unfortunate that we had to part ways with him in the summer.
Even if you are winning trophies you can’t keep all squad members always happy. As a result, we lost a talented player. Thankfully, the addition of Fabio Carvalho makes up for it.
