Jurgen Klopp plays down hopes of Liverpool making further transfers this summer

According to The Liverpool Echo Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media in the pre-match press conference prior to the game against Crystal Palace. He said that the club weren’t being stubborn and would only sign the right players.

He brings light to the fact that Liverpool have been silent in the market for a while now. This is despite the fact that they are facing a crisis of sorts in midfield thanks to injuries.

Despite what appears to be an apparent lack of depth, especially in central midfield, Klopp still believes the size of his squad is good to go and he is “happy with it”.

“The transfer market only makes sense if you can bring in the right player. The right player, not a player.”

With Thiago Alcantara joining the likes of Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, on the treatment table, Liverpool do not have sufficient depth to compete for all four trophies. It was something that came back to haunt us last season.

Klopp doesn’t see the club signing any more players this summer after having signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey just a few weeks into the transfer window. He added that the club had enough conversations already that have led nowhere.

“If we bring in the right player then it could make sense but we always would have done that from the first day of the transfer window or the first day of pre-season. In some cases it was not possible and in other cases extremely difficult.”

Klopp spoke about how the right player would have been signed earlier on in the transfer window, but the market has limited options. He also shed light on the fact that there is always a lack when teams look for players “too specific”.

Given the market options and all other things into consideration, Liverpool’s long-term interest in Jude Bellingham might bear fruit next summer. Whether it is a matter of time or not before he dons red remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, given the transfer deadline is still two weeks away, Klopp might have a change in thought and might resort to signing a new midfielder. Heaven knows the club could do with some extra depth as insurance.
