“Point to Prove”- Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on Liverpool’s 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth

Jurgen Klopp opens up after Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth at Anfield

Speaking to the press after Liverpool’s humongous 9-0 vs Bournemouth (h/t This is Anfield), Jurgen Klopp brought light to the fact that his squad had to “prove a point” after a slow start to the season.

Three winless fixtures to begin the season, including a shock loss to arch-rivals Manchester United. The Reds had to win this game against the Cherries to shut the critics and prove a point to themselves that they’re better than what was on show. This is what Klopp resonated with as well.

“We had to prove a point for ourselves. I know how it sounds when you lose a game and then you try and explain it, it’s always the same, each manager in the world is a fantastic entertainer when you win football games.”

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp.

A point was well proved, with a thumping win albeit against a newly promoted opponent. Scoring nine past any rival is not a small deal. The Reds boss was visibly delighted with how his boys played.

Under heavy scrutiny, Liverpool entered this match with high expectations. The Reds had a very quick start to the game with Luis Diaz opening the scoring within 5 minutes of kick-off. Harvey Elliott was quick to follow on, scoring his first Premier League goal from outside the box.

Overall, the Reds created numerous chances and got the better of the Bournemouth backline. Roberto Firmino was undeniably the best player for Liverpool on the day. A hat-trick of assists in the first half itself. A goal on either side of halftime. His performance was worthy of the man-of-the-match award. Klopp termed his performance as a “top” one.

“That’s Bobby Firmino how we all know him. Timing couldn’t have been better, to be honest.”

Liverpool should not get complacent after this win, and try to build on their good form based on this game. The Reds are only 8th in the Points table as of now and there is a long way to go into the season.
