Liverpool superstar Thiago Alcantara sees himself out of Spain’s squad for the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Switzerland and Portugal. Even though Liverpool’s #6 will not fancy staying out of the national team, this comes as a boost for the Reds. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
Player fatigue is an issue which has been at the forefront of all things football this season. An out-of-place winter World Cup held in Qatar in November is at the crux of everything this footballing year. Due to that, UEFA has clogged all of its group stage fixtures before the beginning of the World Cup.
The players have no other choice but to stick to the tough schedule of at peak, three games a week. In addition, UEFA hosting the Nations League in between an already packed league season makes it much tougher for players to manage fatigue and recover in time for the next game.
Someone like Thiago, who is very injury-prone sitting out of a few games for his country won’t hurt his club. More time for recovery would naturally mean that the former Barcelona man will be match-fit sooner.
Moreover, a hamstring issue early on in the season saw him sit out six games already this season. His brief appearance against Napoli and the game against Ajax Amsterdam showed everyone his class and his importance in this Liverpool team.
Two suspended fixtures due to the Queen’s passing away resulted in Thiago getting just a little bit more time to get into the thick of things. The Reds will play Brighton and Hove Albion next on 1st October, and Thiago’s presence in each and every league fixture is extremely important as it is not exactly a dream start that Liverpool have gone off to.
October and November promise to be a tough run of games for Liverpool and the Reds certainly need all their best players fit for the fixtures. Thiago is as integral to the team and his presence makes a telling difference on the field.
Liverpool are not blessed with the luxury of having multiple midfielders at their disposal, hence keeping those at the club fit is of utmost importance. Ensuring Thiago is fit is a tough ask and the break for the Spaniard could not come at a better time for Liverpool.
