“I couldn’t watch”- Sadio Mane sends special message to Liverpool after their win vs Manchester City

Former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane congratulates the club after statement win against Manchester City

Following Liverpool’s win against Manchester City, former Reds winger Sadio Mane gave a message to the club after Jurgen Klopp’s men emerged victorious against Pep Guardiola’s team at Anfield on Sunday.

Mane, who left the club earlier this summer for Bayern Munich, was a tough nut to crack for City, as during his time in the Premier League, scored seven goals and two assists against them in 16 appearances. Last season, he scored a brace against the Cityzens in the FA Cup semi-final as well.

The Reds, co-incidentally, played their first competitive game after the Senegalese’s transfer against Pep Guardiola’s men, in the FA Community Shield final wherein the Reds emerged victorious, 3-1.

The Senegalese is among the top 10 contenders to win the coveted Ballon d’Or trophy for 2022. Speaking of the City game, which he could not catch live due to Bayern travelling to play against Freiburg, Mane told Bild (h/t Liverpool Echo) this:

“I’m very happy for the guys that they beat City. I couldn’t watch because we were in the bus. I have a lot of faith in the guys and the coach that they will get back to the top”

Missing Mane on Merseyside?

On a day Liverpool won at Anfield, Mane also scored a goal at his new home at the Allianz Arena beating their rivals 5-0. With him also showing faith in the team to get back to the top, Liverpool would certainly be itching to “get back to the top”, as Mane said.

Although the fans would have wanted him to stay a bit longer with the club, Mane departed as an absolute club legend. In 269 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, he scored 120 goals and got 48 assists. Mane scored one of the two goals in a draw the previous time the Reds faced City in the league.

Following the win, the Reds find themselves in the eighth position in the Premier League table with a major chunk of the season yet to be played. Jurgen Klopp’s men could start to make a strong case for themselves starting with this win. Mane’s replacement, Darwin Nunez is also starting to find his feet in the Premier League.

Liverpool may find in themselves extra motivation to get to the top after Mane revealed his confidence in the club’s ability to climb the Premier League table after the Reds beat Manchester City. The Reds next play West Ham and Leeds United, both of which could turn out to be positive results for the Merseysiders.
