“We were lucky”- Mohamed Salah gives verdict on Liverpool’s win vs Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah talks about the Reds’ 2-1 win against Tottenham

Mohamed Salah scored both of Liverpool’s goals in their 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in North London. After a slow start to their campaign, Jurgen Klopp’s men got their first away win in the league this season and are in eighth position on the table – 15 points off the top.

Following two back-to-back losses in the league, and that too teams in the relegation zone at the time of the games, the Reds obviously needed a reaction and it proved to be a statement victory against a strong opposition.

Salah’s first goal was beautiful, and he scored in the 11th minute. Andrew Robertson’s ball towards Darwin Nunez saw the Uruguayan control it neatly and square it to Salah who scored on the spin from just in front of Lloris. His second goal was equally good as well.

Eric Dier misplaced a header back to the keeper and the Egyptian was quick to latch on to it and dink it over Spurs’ French keeper. However, the second half was extremely tough for the Reds to handle.

Speaking to Sky Sports, here is what Mo had to say about Liverpool’s overall performance (via BBC

):

“I think we were lucky in the first half, we played quite good and managed to score two goals. In the second half we could’ve scored but were unlucky.”

Perhaps Liverpool gave too much respect to the home side in the second half, as the Reds were much more vulnerable to a defensive lapse in the second 45. Ibrahima Konate was wonderful for the Reds in the backline even with Harry Kane getting the better of Alisson in the 70th minute.

Solid +3 for Liverpool

However, it was a good performance from the Merseysiders to see the result out and return back from London with a solid game and more importantly, three points on their back. With this game done and dusted, Liverpool have two more games to play before the break for the World Cup.

On Wednesday, the Reds play Derby County in a Carabao Cup game followed by Southampton in the league on Saturday who will probably have to play without a manager following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Liverpool, after these games, will only be back in top-flight action on December 26th, against Aston Villa who got the better of Manchester United today.
