Transfer News: Liverpool amongst clubs interested in signing Switzerland international

Liverpool are interested in signing Switzerland international and RB Salzburg forward Noah Okafor

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg via his Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are one of the several interested clubs in RB Salzburg’s rising star Noah Okafor.

Okafor has been in sensational form for the Austrian side this season having scored seven goals in the league with three goals in the UEFA Champions League.

His form has attracted the interest of many teams, Liverpool being amongst them. There is a possibility of a move for the attacker in the January transfer window, potentially giving the Red a much needed boost midway through the campaign.

Playing the central role for Salzburg, Okafor has excelled in taking over the responsibility this season. He has the raw minerals needed to make it big and could prove to be an inspired acquisition for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Although Liverpool have stacked up the attack with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and new signing Darwin Nunez, this season has shown the importance of having a good squad depth. Too many cooks cannot spoil the broth at Anfield and the Reds will do will to ensure they have enough backup across the board.

Liverpool and Salzburg have conducted deals before. The last deal for the club involving Takumi Minamino was not earth shattering but the Japanese ace played his role as the Reds won both domestic cups last season.

There is a sense of consciousness when it comes to transfers coming from the Austrian league, where the level of competition is not close to what Premier League sides face every week. However there is no denying the quality that some of the players bring to the table.

Hence, it is very important to have a proper scouting report to decide whether or not to go for a particular form and whether the rise in form is something that can be replicated when things get tougher.

With question marks around the change of owners who have been the main talking point, it is difficult to comprehend the direction the club would be taking once the dust settles.

Ideally, the January transfer window would be the perfect judge for everyone associated with the recruitment whether or not it is viable to make a move for the player, once their league comes to an end.

For us currently, it is not the forward department which needs urgent consideration but rather the personnel playing behind the attack which has not been up to the standard recently.

It would be interesting to see how Liverpool approaches the winter transfer window and whether they would go all out for Okafor, who is likely to cost anywhere between €35-40million.
