Boost for Liverpool as 25-year-old midfield target ‘rejects’ Chelsea transfer

Liverpool transfer target Konrad Laimer rejects Chelsea move

In what could be a major boost for Liverpool, transfer target Konrad Laimer has rejected a move to Chelsea as per German publication BILD via Liverpool Echo. However, the said report also says that he intends to move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old is on course to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign as his contract with RB Leipzig comes to an end in the summer of 2023 per Transfermarkt. Liverpool have set their eyes on the Austrian international for a while now, and the recruiters at Anfield want to secure his services.

The central midfielder is one of the best midfielders in the German top tier and can also put in a shift in defensive midfield as well, providing cover for Fabinho as well, who has been without competition for his position during his time in Merseyside.

Konrad Laimer is on the transfer radar of Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

The former RB Salzburg midfielder has made 167 appearances for Leipzig. In those appearances, Laimer has 11 goals and 17 assists across all competitions. At only 25, the best years of his career are ahead of him.

The fact that he has rejected a move to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals is something which could excite

The contracts of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita expire next summer, and that calls for long-term replacements at the club. Moreover, the current lot of central midfielders, including the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara are on the wrong side of their thirties.

Laimer to L4

Someone like Laimer, who is comparatively young, and is somewhat of an established midfielder at the European level could be a decent fit for Jurgen Klopp. The Reds’ pursuit of Jude Bellingham

will come at a very high cost, and hence it is wise to have alternatives.

However, the only problem that comes with Laimer is the fact that he is extremely injury-prone. Liverpool have a lot of players in that category already and hence, it is important to manage this issue.

During his time at Leipzig, he has already missed 79 games due to different injury issues and hence, it becomes important for him to focus on his fitness before making a move to a European giant.

Those who have watched him play would know that Laimer is a great asset to have both in and out of possession of the ball. But the Reds must be wary when signing a new midfielder when it comes to fitness issues – we’ve had far too many injury-prone players in this position now.
