Joe Barone, the CEO of Fiorentina, has revealed that Sofyan Amrabat is “not for sale” amidst interest from Liverpool in the midfielder’s signature.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks. The Reds, along with Tottenham Hotspur, are eyeing the Morocco international’s signature to bolster the middle of the park.
However, speaking to DAZN (h/t Express), Barone has disclosed the Serie A outfit’s stance on Amrabat. The midfielder, as well as striker Nico Gonzalez, are not going to leave the Viola in the ongoing transfer window.
“I can now confirm that Sofyan Amrabat and Nico Gonzalez are not for sale. The president, Commisso, already said that. I can confirm the same for both Gonzalez and Amrabat.”
The Moroccan made his way to Florence in the summer of 2020 after a season with Hellas Verona. Since then, the 26-year-old has been a solid player in Italy.
Over the years at Fiorentina, Amrabat has mainly played as a defensive midfielder. In the current campaign, he has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Viola. They sit 10th in the Serie A table at the moment.
However, the Moroccon caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays in the 2022 World Cup. The 26-year-old was a pivotal player for Walid Regragui’s team as they reached the semi-finals in Qatar. They beat the likes of Spain and Portugal in the knockout rounds.
At Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has had a hard time managing injuries. Initially, during the current campaign, the middle of the park had lost a lot of strength due to fitness issues to the likes of Tiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and others.
On top of that, players have not been at their best either. Fabinho has had a poor season up until now. The Brazilian has been a pivotal player for us in the number six position during our time of success.
Therefore, the Reds evidently need to freshen up the engine room. Amrabat is valued at around £40 million
