Liverpool join the race to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have joined the race to sign Juventus and Serbia striker Dusan Vlahovic in the summer.

The report states that with the due departure of Roberto Firmino at the end of this season, Liverpool would be looking at Vlahovic as a potential replacement for the Brazilian.

The 23-year-old is unhappy in Turin and is looking to make a move away in the coming summer window. He has scored 10 goals and assisted four in 26 appearances in all competitions in a season filled with drama, chaos and points deduction.

As a result of that 15-point deduction, Juventus’ chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season look impossible. Had they not had that deduction, they would have been comfortably sitting second at the table. Instead, they are seventh, 10 points behind fourth-placed AC Milan.

That could be one of the main reasons why Vlahovic wants to leave the club. Manchester United would also consider a move for him as an alternative to Harry Kane.

For Liverpool, while Firmino leaving would leave a huge hole, it has already been filled by the January signing of Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman has looked comfortable in that false nine role so far, with room to improve of course.

Apart from him, there is Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez who could operate in that number nine position. Luis Diaz is not far away from returning to full fitness, while Mohamed Salah is ever-present as ever (touchwood).

So, the Reds could do by not spending on the forward line in the summer. Their focus should be on bolstering the weak midfield department, along with signing a young centre-back for the future.
