According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits that he can only work with what he is given following the Jude Bellingham transfer setback.
It was reported earlier this week that the Reds have cooled their interest in the 19-year-old midfielder. A generational talent, losing out on Bellingham is a cruel blow for a side that is seeking an influx of reinforcements in midfield.
The Reds under FSG have traditionally operated under a budget and splurges have more often than not been exceptions. Signing Bellingham would have seen him become the club’s most expensive signing and set us back financially by a significant amount.
When asked about the setback, Klopp chose to take a pragmatic approach. While he does not appear to be averse about dreaming, one will need to adapt to it should things work out differently.
“We cannot dream, we cannot be angry if we don’t get this or we don’t get that.”
Klopp also appeared to take a dig at FSG, claiming that it was not his money that was on the line. It would appear that the German is just another victim of the Americans’ frugality.
“I am always here explaining it, and that is the bit that is not so cool to be honest. It is not my money we are talking about…”
Given FSG’s frugality,it has taken some smart maneuvers and excellent coaching to garner success on all fronts the last few years. Klopp deserves huge credit for the same and will now need to work his magic again to rebuild a deteriorating side.
With the German now fully aware of the task and the limitations at hand, we hope he can turn us back into believers next season.
The Liverpool squad is jaded and burnt out with several players not getting any younger. A revamp was long overdue and a lot need to be done this summer. Having fallen short in the Bellingham saga, the onus is now on FSG to restore belief in an increasingly fractured fanbase.
