Leeds United eye a move for Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay

Calvin Ramsay, the 19-year-old right-back at Liverpool, finds himself at a pivotal juncture in his budding career amidst interest from Leeds United. Recently recalled from his loan stint at Preston, where playing time proved elusive, Ramsay faces an important decision regarding the next phase of his development.

Since his move from Aberdeen to Liverpool in June 2022, Ramsay has grappled with injury setbacks that have hindered his progress. With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley ahead in the right-back hierarchy at Anfield, Ramsay’s chances in the first team have not come easy.

According to The Mirror, Leeds United have emerged as a potential destination for Ramsay, with the Yorkshire club showing interest in securing his services on loan until the end of the season. This move stands motivated by Leeds’ need for cover at right-back following the departures of Djed Spence and Luke Ayling.

For a 19-year-old talent like Ramsay, the prospect of a loan move to Leeds represents an opportunity for regular playing time and match fitness. Such a move aligns with Liverpool’s strategic approach to loan spells, aiming to provide young players with valuable experience to accelerate their development.

What next for the Scot?

A loan spell at Leeds offers Ramsay the chance to prove his mettle in a highly competitive environment, navigating the challenges posed by Championship football. This experience could mould Ramsay into a more seasoned and resilient player, enhancing his credentials for future contention at Liverpool.

The potential loan move to Leeds not only addresses the immediate need for cover but also positions Ramsay for a more significant role in Liverpool’s future. Returning as a more polished and competitive right-back, he could intensify the competition with Conor Bradley for the position.

Calvin Ramsay has completed an entire 90 only on one occasion for Liverpool; against Derby County in the EFL Cup last term.

Having said that, the recurrence of so many injury issues makes us wonder whether or not the Reds were right in getting Ramsay on board in the first place. However, he is a great talent and we have seen glimpses of his potential when he came on for a brief while against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League last season.
