Pundit predicts how Liverpool will fare against Chelsea as Red plot perfect PL send-off for Jurgen Klopp

Paul Merson expects a narrow victory for Liverpool over Chelsea amid emotional fallout since the departure announcement of Jurgen Klopp

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson predicts a narrow win for Liverpool over Chelsea amid high emotions since Jurgen Klopp’s announcement. Klopp announced that he would step back from the Liverpool manager role due to the feeling of burnout.

Fans and players understand the 56-year-old’s decision to prioritize his mental and physical health, but the situation has everyone overwhelmed. Klopp’s bond with the Reds is extraordinarily strong and the idea of their beloved manager departing is hard to digest.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table with less margin of error at the top. Arsenal and Manchester City are a few points away from the Reds and ready to take advantage of any hiccup.

Nevertheless, the Reds have continued their strong form despite an injury crisis and other uncontrollable factors obstructing their campaign. Liverpool have suffered from poor officiating and match-scheduling while taking every cup competition seriously no matter the odds.

Merson shared his matchday prediction while writing for Sportskeeda, expecting a 2-1 victory for the Reds over Chelsea. He wrote:

“Liverpool have to keep on winning and if they get six points against Chelsea and Arsenal, they’ll take some beating in the Premier League title race. I expect them to win, but if you look at Chelsea’s last ten games, they’ve lost just twice and this game has been a bit of a banana skin for the Reds over the years, so it won’t be easy.”

The Arsenal legend further talked about the potential impact of Klopp’s departure news on the players. He added:

“I think the players will still be reeling from Klopp’s shock decision to leave the club at the end of the season and it’ll be interesting to see what they do. As long as they keep winning games, the players will be focused as they are still alive in all competitions.”

Chelsea are currently in 10th position in the Premier League, 17 points behind the Reds despite their astronomical spending. Nevertheless, Liverpool cannot take their London rivals lightly as they possess a strong squad and world-class manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Liverpool needs to put all the off-field distractions aside and focus on getting the three points against Chelsea. The Reds can provide a sending-off to their beloved manager by winning Klopp big trophies at the end of this season.
