Jurgen Klopp talks about Liverpool star Diogo Jota

Jurgen Klopp has praised Diogo Jota for his confidence and resilience, acknowledging his ability to excel despite playing through the pain of a ‘crazy’ number of knocks.

Jota has been in excellent form for the Reds in 2024, contributing four goals and three assists since returning from a month-long absence due to a hamstring injury at the end of last year.

The 27-year-old has stepped up his performance since Mohamed Salah departed for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he represented Egypt, ultimately exiting in the last 16 on penalties.

The Portugal international showcased his scoring prowess for Liverpool in their recent 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield, strengthening their position at the top of the Premier League table.

During his pre-Arsenal press conference on Friday, Klopp said:

“He just has it. He is a complete package. With – and he knows that and everybody knows that – a few injuries in the wrong time, and a few too many as well. Unlucky, wow.

“Diogo gets, in each game, knocks like crazy. If I go through the list of medical reports I got over the years since Diogo is here, he is in each and every one of them. “

Jota moved to Anfield in 2020 from Wolves and has become one of the best finishers in the world. He has 54 goals and 20 assists in 138 appearances for the Reds. He played a crucial role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s men win both the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup during the 2021/22 season.

Arsenal have been haunted by Diogo Jota for longer than they would care to remember. The Portuguese forward has scored seven goals against the Gunners since making his Liverpool debut against Mikel Arteta’s side at Anfield in September 2020.

He was not on the scoresheet during the 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup last month, however, you wouldn’t bet against him to score against Mikel Arteta’s side on Sunday.
