Liverpool defender sets Wembley record vs Chelsea as Klopp’s youth continues to impress

Liverpool beat Mauricio Pochettino and his Chelsea for a record-breaking 10th League Cup victory last night at Wembley. Incredible performances from the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher and team captain Virgil van Dijk is what got the Reds to the promised land. However, it has to be mentioned that Jurgen Klopp and company owe a lot to the team’s youth who showed up in a big way during desperate times.

As Klopp rested players like Darwin Nunez, Mo Salah, and Diogo Jota who are all recovering from injuries, Virgil van Dijk picked his moment to shine and scored the winner for Liverpool in this game. While doing so he became the oldest ever player to score for Liverpool during a final taking place in Wembley.

There was a wide contrast on the field during the closing moments of the game. As 32-year-old Van Dijk was making history, the Reds were relying on the young shoulders of players like Harvey Elliot, Jayden Danns, and Bobby Clark.

With the Carabao Cup in hand, the Reds can now begin preparation for the other three competitions that Liverpool are competing for at the moment. Celebrating their League Cup victory with Jurgen Klopp will likely go on to motivate the Anfield boys.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of response they give now that the team has already made a success out of this season. However, a lot of work remains as the team is still far from full health.
