Nemanja Matic backs Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Nemanja Matic, former Benfica teammate of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, backs him to replace Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. In January, Klopp announced that he was stepping back from the managerial position due to the feeling of burnout.

The shocking news created an avalanche of rumours and speculation about the managerial post at the club after Klopp’s departure. Nevertheless, the early announcement allowed the Reds to restructure their upper management to navigate a successful transition during the summer.

The Reds announced the return of Michael Edwards to oversee the football operations at the club for the next season. Furthermore, Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes will become the new sporting director at Liverpool after finishing his tenure this season.

Liverpool-linked Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is currently leading the club to their second Liga Portugal title under him.

Amorim is the firm favourite to succeed Klopp at Anfield and usher in a new era at the Merseyside club. The former Portuguese player has earned a reputation for being honest and humble, having immense potential as a football manager.

Matic told Portugal outlet O Jogo that Amorim is a great replacement for Klopp, having the right personality and character. He said:

“Ruben Amorim is an excellent person. He was one of the people who helped me the most when I arrived at Benfica because he speaks English very well. I hope he hasn’t forgotten how to speak it now [laughs]. I see Ruben Amorim at a great club, I don’t know if it will be Liverpool, but if it happens I’m sure he’ll be a great replacement for Klopp because Ruben understands football and has the personality and character to be a great coach, he already is at the moment. I’d like to see him in the Premier League, let’s see what happens from now on.”

Klopp has built a culture that balances the development of youth players while continuously pushing for multiple trophies and success. The 56-year-old’s passion and positive impact sustained Liverpool as one of the giants despite the financial difference with their rivals.

Liverpool fans adore Klopp for his dedication, character and ability to bring fans, players and staff together. The Kopites are hoping that the next manager would preserve the philosophy and culture, maintaining a family environment.

Amorim has accomplished a similar feat at Sporting CP, creating a culture that balances youth development with success. The 39-year-old has immense football knowledge and tactical acumen to lead a top club to great success.
