Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento ready to move to Europe this summer amidst Liverpool interest

According to a report from French outlet Sports Zone, Liverpool are eyeing a move for Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento as a potential replacement for Alisson Becker.

Alisson Becker, 31, easily one of the world’s best goalkeepers, has been a fantastic servant for Liverpool since arriving from AS Roma in 2018. He has played a crucial role in the club’s rich success over the years, helping the Reds win five trophies thus far.

However, the Brazil international endured an injury-hit last campaign that limited him to 28 Premier League appearances. Yet, that hasn’t stopped the cash-rich Saudi Pro League clubs from weighing up a move for the shot-stopper.

With the Saudi Pro League eyeing another intense summer of spending in an attempt to attract high-profile, top-class players, Alisson is reportedly high on their wishlist. He could be the subject of a “monster contract” offer from the Middle East clubs as they intend to sign an established, top-level goalkeeper this window.

This comes amid Wolverhampton Wanderers and Celtic’s interest in Liverpool’s back-up goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher impressed in the second half of last season when Alisson was injured and is increasingly likely to leave Anfield this summer in search of regular first-team action.

As a result, the Reds are scouring the transfer market for a new goalkeeper. Sports Zone claims that they are monitoring Bento, who is one of Alisson’s teammates for Brazil. Having come through the youth ranks at Athletico Paranaense, Bento, 24, has racked up over 150 appearances for the senior side.

The shot-stopper’s impressive displays for his club and international recognition with Brazil has sparked interest among European clubs. AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are all keeping an eye on the 24-year-old, the report adds.

Liverpool must do everything within their powers to keep hold of Alisson as we usher into the Arne Slot era. Losing such a key player and big personality with winning pedigree just before Slot’s crucial first season would be a big blow, so the Reds must retain the Brazilian’s services.

In addition, we must look to replace Kelleher with the highly-rated Bento, although it would be interesting to see if the 24-year-old is ready to become Liverpool’s No.2. Bento’s addition would provide the Reds with a long-term solution in the goalkeeping department, ensuring a smooth transition when Alisson bids farewell at some point in the future.
