With the transfer window in full swing and Liverpool aiming to strengthen their squad, a former Reds striker has called on the club to make one of the most audacious moves in recent memory. He has urged Liverpool to target none other than the captain of their fierce rivals, Manchester City.

Manchester City’s epic 8-0 FA Cup demolition of Salford City on Saturday was eclipsed by Pep Guardiola’s startling post-match revelation that Kyle Walker has submitted a transfer request to leave the Premier League champions. After spending the prime years of his career at Manchester City, the skipper might be seeking new challenges, especially as the club appears to be undergoing a period of transition.

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker makes Liverpool title claim

The former Liverpool striker wants to see Walker at Anfield

Following reports of the 34-year-old seeking a move away from the Etihad Stadium, the former striker has suggested that Liverpool should consider signing Kyle Walker amid uncertainty over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future. Speaking on talkSPORT, Saunders highlighted Walker’s elite pace and experience, claiming he would be a strong addition to Liverpool’s squad and could easily start for other top teams, including Spurs, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

This could easily rank as one of the most baffling takes, questioning why Liverpool would consider a 35-year-old right-back with clear character concerns. Even if Trent Alexander-Arnold were to leave this year, Liverpool would have no reason to hinder Conor Bradley’s development by signing the Manchester City defender. Regardless of Saunders’ arguments, it’s safe to conclude that this hypothetical transfer is highly unlikely to materialise.

The striker speaking on talkSPORT presented us with one of the worst takes

“Do you want me to chuck a spanner in the works? It looks like Trent is leaving; why don’t Liverpool sign him?

“There you go, he’d be a good signing for Liverpool if Trent goes. I know they’ve got the young kid [Conor Bradley] coming through…by the way, he’s still quick, and if Trent is leaving…”

: “He’d get in Spurs’ team, he’d get in Liverpool’s team, he’d get in Man United’s team, he’d get in Chelsea’s team. Would he get in Arsenal’s team? He’d get in Arsenal’s team. He’s better than [Ben] White.”

Walker’s pace, once explosive, has noticeably declined, as Jamie Carragher pointed out on Sky Sports, highlighting the defender’s tendency to “switch off” and his inability to rely on speed to recover. Pursuing him now, rather than investing in a younger fullback, would be nothing short of sheer folly.
