Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is open to joining Arne Slot’s Liverpool in the summer
Liverpool had a quiet January transfer window, with no new additions made to Arne Slot’s squad despite him pushing for a sensational potential treble in his first season in English football.
Make no mistake about it, the chiefs at Kirkby are already working on signings for the summer to back Arne Slot in rebuilding the squad. Given how the Dutch tactician barely made any changes to the squad that inherited from Jurgen Klopp last year, he will be keen to make some adjustments by bringing in profile of players that fit his system.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is keen on a summer move to Liverpool.

The Sweden international has established himself as one of the best centre-forwards in Europe over the last two years. He has been in sensational form since the start of this season, netting 17 Premier League goals so far. This has led to growing interest in the attacker.
Newcastle United are keen to tie Alexander Isak down to a new lucrative contract to fend off interest from Premier League and European clubs, with talks expected to take place at the end of the campaign. Apart from Liverpool, Arsenal have been showing great interest in the Magpies star for a long time now. They have shortlisted Isak as their dream target for the summer, but the Gunners’ chances of signing him are not great due to Newcastle’s asking price of over £120million.
The aforementioned report adds Isak would be open to a move to Liverpool in order to win trophies and continue to play regularly in the Champions League. Newcastle are wary of their star’s lofty ambitions of competing at the highest level and that is one of the prime reasons why they want to bring back Champions League nights to St James’ Park next season.
Liverpool have been extremely savvy in their transfer dealings in the last six to seven years. The club chiefs generally don’t spend big on a player unless there is a pressing need, but with Isak, they may be ready to break the bank.

Mohamed Salah is yet to decide whether to sign a new contract and extend his stay at Anfield or depart on a free transfer in the summer, while Liverpool are open to offloading Darwin Nunez. Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr came close to signing Nunez in the January transfer window but the Reds pulled the plug on a move. Although the Uruguayan striker was ready to make the switch, the club chiefs didn’t have a quality replacement lined up and thus rejected Al-Nassr’s big proposal.

If Salah and Nunez depart at the end of the season, Liverpool would have solid wriggle room to manoeuvre and go big for their replacements. Isak, in that regard, would be a massive upgrade on Nunez whilst adding more potency to Liverpool’s attack. Due to his technical skills, movement, and link-up play, the Swede would be a fantastic fit in Slot’s system.
If Liverpool can pull off Isak’s signing, it would represent a massive coup.
