Liverpool are currently enjoying the form of their life, playing at a level that most teams can only dream of having top spots in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Looking back now.. their 2022 transfer window was arguably the worst in recent history.

Out of the three players Liverpool signed, only one – Darwin Nunez – remains at the club. Even so, the former Benfica striker has experienced a mixed time at Anfield.

Not only did Liverpool make poor signings, but they also lost legendary winger Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich. Mane was not in his best form, with the 30-year-old not quite himself in the 18 months leading up to his departure, Liverpool faced heavy criticism for selling him.

In the end, however, things worked out for the best. Mane struggled at Bayern and was already heading to Saudi Arabia just a year later. Before he left Germany, though, it turns out that Sadio Mane used his influence to try to convince Ryan Gravenberch that his future was at Liverpool.

Arne Slot completely revamped Gravenberch; Klopp wasn’t able to do a good job with him. Under Slot, Gravenberch was given new life and is becoming one of the very best midfielders in the world as of now.

If Liverpool had a bad transfer window in 2022, then Bayern’s was worse. The German giants signed Mane, Gravenberch, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Yann Sommer, Daley Blind, and Mathys Tel.

Fast forward two and a half years, and none of those players are left at the Allianz Arena. This has turned out well for Liverpool. After Bayern’s mismanagement of Gravenberch, the Dutchman wanted to leave, and a year of adjustment at Anfield later, Gravenberch has established himself as one of the most important players for the Reds.

Mane, of course, deserves a mention, in the sense that, according to Gravenberch, he helped him in joining Merseyside.

Speaking to LFCTV, Gravenberch remembered how Mane advised him

“Sadio is a really nice guy,” “When I was in Munich, I asked him also about Liverpool, if it’s like a good step for me and how the club was and everything.

“He said a lot of good things. So, in my head I was like, ‘I have to go!’”
