Liverpool not keen on summer move for Kevin de Bruyne

With just three matches remaining in the Premier League season, Liverpool have already clinched the title, securing their 20th league crown in dominant fashion. The Reds have been a class apart this season, and their latest triumph only solidifies their status as one of the most formidable sides in English football.

Meanwhile, the transfer market is already heating up with the news that Kevin De Bruyne will leave Manchester City this summer. The Belgian playmaker is attracting significant interest from multiple clubs, and according to TBR Football, Liverpool could be one of the teams keeping a close eye on him. Sources close to Anfield have reportedly indicated that the Reds are monitoring De Bruyne’s situation closely, considering a potential move for the midfield maestro.

Adding De Bruyne to an already stacked Liverpool side would be a statement signing, but with numerous suitors vying for his signature, the battle to secure his services could be intense.

De Bruyne is reportedly open to staying in England after leaving Manchester City, a decision that has already sparked interest from several Premier League clubs. Despite his past links to the MLS, the 33-year-old appears keen to continue playing at the highest level domestically. De Bruyne reminded everyone of his enduring quality last weekend, scoring City’s only goal in their 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A move to Liverpool, however, would be nothing short of sensational given the intense rivalry between the two clubs in recent years. The prospect of De Bruyne donning the red shirt at Anfield would undoubtedly stir emotions on both sides, particularly after the numerous high-stakes battles they have fought for Premier League supremacy. Yet, with multiple clubs circling, the race for De Bruyne’s signature is far from a foregone conclusion.

The transfer is not expected to take place

Liverpool have categorically ruled out a move for Kevin De Bruyne, according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey. Despite recent speculation linking the Belgian midfielder with a sensational switch to Anfield, sources close to the club have confirmed that there is no interest in signing the 33-year-old.

A source revealed that Liverpool’s focus remains firmly on long-term planning under new manager Arne Slot, and signing De Bruyne based on his past achievements would not align with that strategy. The Reds are prioritizing younger players who can contribute to the club’s future success, rather than investing in an aging star nearing the twilight of his career — even one with De Bruyne’s pedigree.

Meanwhile, TBR also reports that De Bruyne is open to staying at Manchester City to participate in this summer’s Club World Cup, although his chances of featuring in Pep Guardiola’s lineup appear slim. For now, Liverpool are opting to steer clear of the former Premier League icon, focusing instead on building a squad that can contend for titles in the coming years.

A boyhood Liverpool fan, bringing in De Bruyne as an impact player would have been the stuff of dreams. Despite his age, the Belgian remains a top player and could yet make a difference if his minutes are wisely managed. However, a final hurrah at Anfield appears to be fanciful at best.
