Italian giants still interested in Liverpool star after links in the summer

AC Milan still interested in signing Dejan Lovren

AC Milan are still interested in Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, according to Italian reports (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The Croatian was linked with a move in the summer (h/t Liverpool Echo) but remained at Liverpool since we don’t have a lot of cover for our first-choice centre-backs.

The Milan giants are considering a move for the 30-year-old, according to the report, but the Croatian has moved up the pecking order this season.

Dejan Lovren battles for the ball against Leicester

Lovren to get more games

Joel Matip will be out for a while with a knee problem and that leaves just Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Lovren as our senior centre-backs.

The Croatian featured in our 2-1 win over Tottenham and even started the game against Leicester.

In fact, Lovren seems to be ahead of Gomez after the Englishman had a slow start to the season. Gomez didn’t do all that well in our Carabao Cup win over Arsenal while Sepp van den Berg also made some mistakes at the back.

This should see Lovren continuing as Van Dijk’s partner until Matip is back in action, and the Reds have to retain the Croatian at all costs.

The 30-year-old might make a mistake or two but no one can doubt his commitment on the pitch.

Lovren has done well alongside Van Dijk and the pair needs to keep things tight as Manchester City get ready to visit Anfield in a couple of weeks.
