Liverpool initiate contact with Rennes for wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga

According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool have initiated contact with French side Rennes over their 17-year-old wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

The Reds have taken this step following interest from arch-rivals Manchester United. A number of Europe’s top clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona also remain keen on the talented youngster.

Capable of playing in both central and defensive midfield, Camavinga has established himself as a regular at the Roazhon Park outfit. The 17-year-old has scored one goal and two goals in 36 appearances

this season.
Eduardo Camavinga is one of Ligue One’s best young talents

Rennes have enjoyed an impressive season and currently sit third in Ligue One. Their current position is enough to grant them a position in the UEFA Champions League qualification stages. It could provide the French side the chance to participate in Europe’s premier competition for the first time in their history

.

According to the report, Liverpool have already spoken to the French side regarding a move. Rennes are said to be demanding £46.4million for the player. The French side are adamant on their valuation being met but could be willing to negotiate following the coronavirus outbreak.

One for the future?

James Milner is in the twilight years of his career whereas Henderson and Wijaldum will turn 30 this year. To that end, Camavinga could be potentially groomed to take their spot in the future.

Considered as one of the best young players in the world, the 17-year-old has been likened to former Argentine star Fernando Redondo in his prime. He is also the youngest player to win Ligue 1 Player of the Month award. (h/t Metro)

Camavinga has been at Rennes since 2013

Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in the player whose future could be decided this summer. Speaking earlier on the topic, Rennes president Olivier Letang declared that discussions over Camavinga’s future will be held at the end of the season

.

“We will meet to discuss it a little later on. Probably at the end of the season.”
