A report by Daily Mail suggests that Wolverhampton Wanderers are amongst the teams interested in signing Divock Origi in January.
Origi joined Liverpool from Lille in 2014 but has never cemented his spot in the team since making his debut for the Reds in 2015.
He resuscitated his Liverpool after returning from a loan spell with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg in June 2018. The Belgian scored important goals for the Reds in their march to the UEFA Champions League title in 2019.
He even signed a 5-year contract extension with the club that summer, which keeps him at Anfield until 2024. However, he made just 7 league starts last season.
He has also not found any proper game time in the league this season at Liverpool. Despite Liverpool’s serious injury crisis this season, he is yet to start in the Premier League. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
And now, Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing the 25-year-old as cover for the injured Raul Jimenez. The club’s preference will be a loan move for the player in January.
Along with Origi, Wolves are also interested in Maxi Gomez and Salomon Rondon. However, Wolves are also not the only Premier League club to be interested in the Belgian.
Newcastle United have also shown interest in signing the ex-Lille striker. Apart from the two Premier League clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge have recently been linked with Origi. (h/t Daily Mail)
While we signed Diogo Jota this summer, his recent injury against FC Midtjylland looks worrying. Xherdan Shaqiri’s availability this season has also been spotty.
In such a situation, having a squad player like Divock Origi would help the squad as they go into a busy new year period.
