Transfer News: Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas wanted by Fenerbahce

According to transfer news from Fotomac (h/t Mirror), Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has emerged as a summer target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Tsimikas signed for Liverpool only last summer from Greek outfit Olympiacos. However, the 25-year-old hardly got a look-in into Jurgen Klopp’s side given that Andrew Robertson is the undisputed starter at left-back for the Merseyside giants.

In addition to that, the defender also had multiple injury issues over the course of the campaign. As a result, Tsimikas managed just seven appearances across all competitions in his debut season in England, seeing only six minutes of Premier League football.

Heading into the new season, Tsimikas’ future at Anfield is under a cloud of doubt. And, Turkish giants Fenerbahce are waiting in the wings, ready to pounce should an opportunity present itself.

The report states that Liverpool could be open to the prospect of sending Tsimikas out on loan for the season, which offers hope to the Turkish giants that a deal can be struck.

Tsimikas may have hardly featured in his debut season with Liverpool. But loaning him out would be a move wrought with risk, especially considering that the Reds have no cover in the left-back position for Robertson. James Milner is not getting any younger while academy product Adam Lewis has been loaned out to Scottish club Livingston FC.

With the situation being as it is, Tsimikas’ exit should only be sanctioned if Klopp & co. are considering signing a new left-back this summer. Otherwise, Liverpool would be better off keeping hold of the 25-year-old as they will need adequate depth in all positions to mount a title challenge.
