According to the Metro, via Mirror (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool will be looking to add their star-studded squad in January, with Yves Bissouma a possible option.
The Mali international was of interest to several clubs this summer but none of the clubs made an official bid for the 25-year-old. However, it looks like that is going to change in the coming winter transfer window as Liverpool are ready to ‘resume’ their interest in the midfielder.
The Reds already possess the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Harvey Elliot, and Curtis Jones in their ranks, but adding some more quality will only boost Jurgen Klopp’s options in the centre of the park.
Moreover, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara suffered major injury problems last year and the Reds were slightly short in options in midfield at times. The club failed to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who departed this summer as well.
Thus, an additional midfielder would certainly do more than enough of bolstering the club’s midfield line. Bissouma, who joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018, has been an integral player at the Amex Stadium and has featured consistently over the last three years.
The midfielder has managed 99 appearances in his three seasons at the club, with 36 of them coming in the Premier League last year. Thus, the Mali international has so far shown that he is not injury prone and can feature above 30 games per season.
With Liverpool facing hectic schedules year after year, a player like Bissouma, who has recently turned 25 and could hit his footballing peak, might prove to be a pivotal asset for the club in the long-term future.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds can sign him in January as they would also be facing competition from rivals Manchester United & Arsenal, as per The Metro via Mirror (h/t Liverpool Echo).
