Ian Rush, Liverpool legend, has told Daily Mail (h/t Liverpool Echo), that the club should be trying their best to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. He believes signing them this January can be a tough ask, hence, the Reds should look towards next summer.
Liverpool have apparently been interested in adding more firepower to their attacking line-up for some time. After Xherdan Shaqiri’s move to Lyon, they have been a bit stretched on options.
With Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah as their starters recently, Roberto Firmino has been the only reliable backup option. Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi have not been consistent enough to be relied upon.
The Merseyside club could be looking to sign players to increase the depth as a safeguard against potential injuries. However, the former Reds striker believes they do not need to sign anyone this January.
Talking to Daily Mail (h/t Liverpool Echo), Rush has said the following:
“If they’re top of the league, why sign somebody? You look at your position in January and see where you are. As long as everyone stays injury-free, I don’t think they need to invest in January”.
Speaking on the topic about signing one of Haaland and Mbappe, he continued:
“I think if you look age-wise, Mbappe is absolutely flying. He would suit Liverpool. [Erling] Haaland is also scoring for fun”.
Mbappe or Haaland would be a great option based on how sensational they have been. They would raise the bar of the attack with their quality. Adding one of them to the likes of Mane and Salah could make a great combo with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.
It could also help in ensuring that there are always options available and Klopp could tweak the attack as the situation asks for.
