Liverpool linchpin singled out for immaculate praise by Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara singles out Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson for immaculate praise

Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are two of the most important midfielders for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp right now. The Englishman’s leadership skills coupled with the Spaniard’s technical brilliance make them the perfect pairing in midfield.

Thiago was signed from Bayern Munich back in 2020, when the Bavarians had just won the UEFA Champions League against PSG. It was a big move for the Reds.

Some would still consider him to be the biggest signing we have made in the past few decades in terms of the profile of the player. He has won everything there is to win with Barcelona and Bayern and has been a regular for Spain.

For him to join Liverpool with his glittering trophy cabinet and world-class skills as a central midfielder was a milestone for the club in the transfer market. And he has taken well to his new surroundings.

It is clear that he is still driven and motivated to win despite having achieved nearly everything in his career. The way he was spotted celebrating and motivating Nat Phillips during his first season at Anfield showed just how much he valued those around him- even if they weren’t really world-class footballers.

Big praise for Henderson

And he has now singled out Hendo for perhaps one of the biggest praise the Englishman will receive in his career. Speaking in the documentary Jordan Henderson is Never Done – produced by Nike Football, Laurence McKenna and Deft Touch Films, the 31-year-old said (h/t Liverpoolfc.com):

“He [Henderson] is one of the best players, and midfield players, I’ve ever played with in my life. So, I’m proud to be part of his team, just happy to play alongside him.”

Bear in mind this is coming from a player that has played with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Xabi Alonso, and Leon Goretzka. Perhaps he was being a bit nice to his teammate in his documentary.

But it doesn’t take away the fact that Henderson has been the linchpin of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp. Barking instructions throughout the 90 minutes and running around as if he had four lungs, Hendo continues to be one of our most important players.

Under his captaincy, we have achieved it all and were two games away from achieving an unprecedented quadruple last campaign. Now 32, Henderson’s career could be coming to a close but he still has a lot left in his tank- and Jurgen Klopp would know that.
