According to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has signed a new long-term contract at the club, which secures his future at Anfield amidst recent uncertainty.
The 25-year-old star recently saw interest from Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa but has put pen to paper on a new deal that keeps him at the club until the summer of 2027. That comes as a big boost for us.
It makes sure that the Reds would go into the new season with four top-quality centre-backs. One man who has seen Joe Gomez at Liverpool since he arrived at the club is Jurgen Klopp.
The Englishman joined us just a few months before Klopp’s appointment at the helm. And since that move from Charlton Athletic in 2015, Gomez has had a great ride with us.
He has won multiple trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, and there is more to come from him. Klopp, while speaking to the official club website, expressed his thoughts on this new deal.
“Joe is an outstanding talent. He is also an outstanding defender and an outstanding human being. He has so many qualities, I could talk about them all day, so knowing that he will continue his journey with us is a massive boost – one that everyone who loves Liverpool FC and cares about its present and future should be unbelievably happy about.”
Gomez, still 25, has a long way to go in his career. With Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip in their 30s, the English international’s services could be needed even more in the coming years.
“One of the many wonderful things about Joe is he has experience and youth – that’s not a bad combination.”
Ibrahima Konate has won Klopp over since his move from RB Leipzig but Gomez’s importance cannot be subdued. He is fourth in the pecking order right now but the three centre-backs ahead of him are all top quality.
Next season could be an important one for Gomez. It remains to be seen what role he plays then, but hopefully, he is content with it. His contract renewal suggests he is happy with what the club has planned for him.
