Talksport pundit Gabby Agbonlahor takes credit for the downfall of Liverpool this season

Talksport pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes he rattled Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, which has led to the Reds having an underwhelming season (Talksport Radio, h/t Mirror).

Very early in the season, after Brentford thrashed Manchester United 4-0, Agbonlahor had some harsh words to say about Erik ten Hag’s men. Following that game, Liverpool were due to play United.

In the pre-match press conference, Reds boss Klopp didn’t take the comments from the former Aston Villa striker well and reminded him of the time when Liverpool smashed Villa 6-0 at Villa Park.

Klopp hasn’t spoken much about Agbonlahor since then, but it seems the pundit is revelling in the fact that he rattled the German. Here’s what he said (h/t Mirror):

“Klopp only knew my first name, not my second name! He knew what he was doing. It’s that way of saying: “Oh, I don’t know who he is. What’s his name?”

“And ever since… 16pts behind Arsenal now. It’s not been the mentality monster season for Liverpool. I’m just saying, he’s been rattled and this season Liverpool haven’t been the same as they should be.”

Following on from that quote, when asked whether he thinks the Liverpool boss got rattled by him, Agbonlahor responded with a “yeah”.

How delusional do you want to feel? Agbonlahor wants to believe in his hype, which is not surprising given the level he used to play at. If a pundit believes he or she has rattled a football manager which in turn becomes the reason why their team isn’t performing well, we can laugh at that thought.

Liverpool’s issues were apparent even before the Agbonlahor-Klopp back-and-forth happened. In the first game against Fulham itself, warning signs were there that the team will struggle this season.

With what we have seen thus far, it is not a surprise. The team is lacking in quality and legs in midfield, which is affecting the balance of their composition. If the owners think Liverpool will finish in the top four with the current squad, they are equally as bad in their thinking.

On Klopp, yes it has not been his greatest season as a manager, but it almost feels like he is working with one hand tied behind his back. Let’s unshackle him soon, shall we?
