After impressing with spells at RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, and Atletico Madrid, Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha is currently starring for Wolves, who are one of the contenders for the drop in the Championship this season.
If he keeps up his good form, however, Wolves are likely to stay up. And his form has not gone unnoticed by the big fish of the English topflight.

Arne Slot praises Matheus Cunha ahead of Wolves clash
Ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Wolves this Sunday, Arne Slot has come out full of praises for their star forward Matheus Cunha.
“He’s a type of player that I’m referring to when I always say, if I compare the leagues, or a league where I’ve worked in and this league.
“I don’t know exactly where Wolves are at the moment… 17th, if you go to the Dutch league and look at the 17th [team] there’s no player who could play for Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord, but Matheus Cunha is a quality player and he has the quality to play for one of the top five teams in England.
“That is also one of the reason why it is so much more difficult to win a game against 17th in England than to win against 17th in Holland. Again, we already saw when we played against them with Gary O’Neil, they had a very good performance back then as well, and him [Cunha] in particular, so we know it’s going to be a tough game on Sunday again.”
Slot on Cunha, as quoted by Mirror.
The 25-year-old has been a revelation ever since arriving at Molineux Stadium from Atletico Madrid a little over two years ago. With 12 goals and four assists this season, he’s spearheading Wolves’ attempt to stave off relegation.
Cunha signed a contract extension Wolves just a few weeks ago. However, his new deal, set to run until June 2029, has a £62m release clause this summer.
Cunha has been on Liverpool’s radar ever since the days of Jurgen Klopp. This summer, the Reds could face competition for his signature from Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham.
TKT Opinion
In recent weeks, Liverpool have been linked with, apart from Cunha, Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz, AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic, and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki. Not to mention that they also brought in Federico Chiesa on a low-risk move last season, and the Italy international has already been linked with exits from Anfield.
These players one particular thing in common: they can play centrally and out wide. In the middle, they usually occupy supporting roles, which further solidifies the profile Liverpool are looking for to boost their front line going into next season.
Cunha’s release clause may deter Liverpool for making a move for him, though if they end up losing more than one forwards, which is likely, they may end up feeling the need to make a statement signing, especially after last summer’s dry window.
