Captain Virgil van Dijk told Darwin Nunez to regain composure, highlighting that Liverpool faces ups and downs together as one. Nunez missed a big goalscoring chance against Aston Villa to seal the victory at Villa Park, followed by more mistakes.
Liverpool drew 2-2 against the Villans, dropping two points with their fourth draw in the last eight Premier League games. The draw is a good result against a strong Villa side but the current predicament invites more scrutiny for Liverpool.
The Reds are chased relentlessly by Arsenal for the Premier League title who failed immensely in the last two seasons. Nunez has won Liverpool some important games with spectacular winners in the past but he habitually fumbles many big chances.

Speaking to the media (via Liverpool Echo), Liverpool captain Van Dijk told Nunez to shrug the criticism off as they face adversities as a team. He said:
“We’re all in this together. I think there’s no point talking about the individual (Responding to the miss from Nunez). I think I’ve never done it and I will never do it. We’re all in this together. And I know for a fact that by the end of the season, if we hopefully get rewards for our hard work throughout the whole season in whatever kind of competition, everyone will be happy with him [Nunez] as well.”
While constructive criticism are understandable and feeling the disappointment is justified, hounding an individual relentlessly with personal attacks and vile comments speaks more about those critics of Nunez than the forward.
Liverpool fans who have witnessed all the ups and downs are conditionally backing Nunez and every Liverpool player. That is the Liverpool way and also practical considering that everyone has to finish the season with what they have.

The focus shifts to the next game against Manchester City as Liverpool continues to face games quickly amid fixture congestion. We hope that Nunez will get a chance to redeem himself before the season is over. Rest assured, the Reds’ boss Arne Slot needs everyone to maintain their focus at the latter stages of the season.
