Jurgen Klopp’s key Liverpool players are close to a suspension over their surging yellow cards

Gameweek 19 is definitely going to be a stressful one for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. His players, known for their domineering attack, have accumulated an alarming number of yellow cards thus far in the current season. The defenders at the Anfield side have garnered most of the yellow cards for the season.

Defensive midfielder Wataru Endo leads the list in a tie with striker Darwin Nunez, both of whom have four yellow cards to their name. Klopp’s men would be facing a two-game suspension if their bookings reach up to ten in number.

Should the duo continue on with their foul play in the upcoming clash against Burnley at Turf Moor today, there’s a fat chance of them ending up suspended before Liverpool’s consequent match against Newcastle the following week. With key players like Alexis Mac Allister, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara benched out due to their injuries, it leaves the squad fairly thin.

The Merseyside outfit faces Eddie Howe’s team for the third time this year. To ensure that the third time does not serve as a charm for the latter, the Reds would need to employ their tactical counter-attacks via their speedy forwards. Nunez, along with Reds’ right and left-wingers, have played out attacks which were successful in cutting through their opponents’ defence lines this season.

Klopp’s men would most probably be aiming to show up at Burnley and secure the three goals that might elevate their second rank to a temporary first in the Premier League table, for which the forwards play a crucial role. Nunez has not been very successful with his strikes, though he has been excellent in the air and has created impressive chances for his wingers.

With Wataru Endo entering the scene, it seems like Klopp is setting his players up to crowd the midfield and to make it easier for attack. The defensive midfielder’s assists would play a major role for players like Mo Salah and Diogo Jota in scoring their goals. The Reds’ midfield has been likened to that of a rigid fortress under their German head coach’s supervision. The Anfield Giants seem to be eager to secure a spot in the title race.
