The possibility of Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool is getting realer with every passing day, and it is one of those departures that is going to send massive shockwaves through Anfield when it happens, and the Kop, alongside the pundits, has been speaking about the possibilities of the Egyptian messiah leaving the L4 at the end of the ongoing season.

The 32-year-old’s contract will run out at the end of this season, and with the ex-Chelsea star free to negotiate with other clubs outside England, the question remains: Should the chiefs at Kirkby let Salah leave? Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink thinks that letting Mo leave is the right decision while speaking about his age and potential financials.

Liverpool did right in letting Salah leave?

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah helped the club beat the Saints in the Premier League fixture on late November.

Hasselbaink insists that it is unrealistic for the Reds to keep hold of Salah because of his age and wage demands. Speaking on talkSPORT, Jimmy said:

“If I’m the owner, the businessman of Liverpool, I’ll let Salah go because of his age. Because what do you have to pay him? You will have to pay him mega mega money… First of all, I’d never have let him get to this position… so it’s Liverpool’s mistake.

“Second of all, he’s going to be 33. He wants a three-year contract. You can’t give a 33-year-old a three-year deal. Even if I love him, that amount of money business-wise is not right”.

This is emotional

Taking out the emotional hold from this, Hasselbaink’s argument does seem valid, especially when you think of the amount of financial commitment that Liverpool will have to give in order to keep him. And while he’s a symbol of hope for fans at L4 and a player who has given countless moments of joy and tears… letting him go would be like ripping the soul out of the team (at least for many of the Kop who cheer him running down the wing week in and week out).

It is hard to imagine Anfield without Salah as a supporter, and while much of it is business to the club, it is going to be difficult if he ends up leaving at the end of the season.
