Liverpool had all but signed Martin Zubimendi last summer, only for the move to fall apart at the very last moment.
Now, the Reds are no longer leading the race for the star Spaniard, so they have started looking at alternatives.
Liverpool hold internal talks over Angelo Stiller
As reported by Caught Offside, Liverpool have held internal discussions over Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller ahead of a transfer approach in the summer.

Despite having a lean transfer window last summer, the Reds were keen to secure a midfielder for new boss Arne Slot. Real Sociedad ace Martin Zubimendi had all but joined but pulled the plug on the move at the eleventh hour. The Spain international is again touted to be on the move in the coming summer, though Arsenal are considered to be the ones leading the race for his signature.
This leaves Liverpool looking for alternatives, and alongside Stiller they are also considering a move for Barça outcast Frenkie de Jong, though there are concerns over his wage demands, bringing Stiller into the picture.
The 23-year-old Germany international is believed to have a €40m release clause in his current Stuttgart contract, which is set to run until June 2028. With 33 appearances this season across all competitions, the deep-lying midfielder remains a crucial part of Die Schwaben‘s push for Champions League football for another year.
TKT Opinion
Stiller looks like the safest option if Liverpool do miss out on Zubimendi. In terms of profile, he fits the bill, and given the fee and salary package Liverpool would have to commit for him would also leave them with plenty in the bank for other signings next summer.

De Jong would be a “flashy” option, but the fact he hasn’t been a starter for Barça this season despite being match-fit is a concern, as are his wages. Getting him would be far from a low-risk acquisition Liverpool pulled off with Federico Chiesa last time around; they’re better off focusing on Stiller.
