According to transfer news from Sheffield Star (h/t Liverpool Echo), Ben Davies could leave Liverpool on a permanent basis. Initially, the club wanted to let the player leave on loan. However, director Michael Edwards is now willing to allow the centre-back to leave permanently.
The report adds that the defender is interested in a move to Sheffield United. According to Sky Sports, the Blades are interested in signing the 25-year-old as well.
Sheffield United have publicly stated their interest in Ben Davies. Manager Slavisa Jokanovic was asked about the club’s interest in Davies and Ronaldo Vieira, to which he responded positively.
“I am interested in both players.
The Reds signed Ben Davies in January 2021. Along with the 25-year-old, the Reds also brought in Ozan Kabak amid their injury crisis.
The former Preston North End defender has not made a competitive appearance for the club yet. Now, the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomes and Joel Matip are back fit. On top of that, Liverpool has announced the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. It would be fair to assume that getting minutes would be harder than ever for Davies.
The 25-year-old would be approaching his prime soon. He needs regular first-team minutes at this point of his career. Furthermore, a move to Sheffield United could be good for the defender. The Blades could be counting on direct promotion back to the Premier League.
Hence, it would make sense for Liverpool to sell Davies. The Reds could negotiate a decent fee for the player.
